MijoSEF 1.4 released, canonical URLs

After a couple of months of rest, I'm happy to announce a new version of the magnificent Joomla SEO & SEF URLs component, MijoSEF. This version includes a couple of new features such as automatic canonical URLs and some bug fixes.

Automatic canonical URLs

This was the most wanted feature. As you may know, MijoSEF supports non-SEF varilables in URLs so you may have URLs like the following ones:

category-page.html?order_by=price
product-page.html?print

non-SEF variables are used to reduce the number of SEF URLs generated as you don't need a separate SEF URL for the print or order by page, those are not in your SEO target. However, at the same time, these variables may downgrade the SEO grade of the original page as search engines (Google) may see them as duplicate pages. Later, search engines recognized this problem and created the canonical link meta tag. With MijoSEF 1.4, you have the possibility to automatically add the proper canonical link to the pages that includes non-SEF variables into their URL. All you have to do is to enable it from MijoSEF => Configuration => URLs page.

Auto-lock URLs

This is another new option added to MijoSEF 1.4 which offers you to automatically lock all newly created URLs. It helps a lot if you think that you've set up MijoSEF properly and want to prevent the deletion of the newly generated SEF URLs.

PHP 5.4 compatibility

Life goes on, things get improved and so on PHP. We've improved MijoSEF 1.4 so now it works perfectly on PHP 5.4 platform.

How to upgrade to MijoSEF 1.4

Very simple, check this article please. Even we use a dedicated server, the automatic upgrade may fail sometimes due to the high load. You can use the manual upgrade in such a case. As always, don't forget to take a back-up before upgrading.
